Soggy Bottom Hunt Club Rules and Regulations - 2004

The following rules and regulations are there for the benefit of Soggy Bottom Hunt Club, its members, the tenant farmers and land owners.  The rules and fines will be strictly enforced and it’s everyone’s obligation as members to ensure these guidelines are honored.  Failure to adhere to these rules and regulations will result in the loss of membership, both annually and possibly permanently, with no monies being refunded.

General Rules and Guidelines

  • First and foremost, respect.  Respect for fellow members, respect for the landowners, respect for the land itself and respect for the game pursued.
  • All members must abide by Local and State Game Laws.
  • Absolutely NO Turkey Hunting.
  • All members must sign “IN” and “OUT” at the designated check-in area on the map and in the sign out book.  Members are eligible to sign out starting at 4AM for the days hunt and can remain signed out on the same stand location for the remainder of the day if so desired.
  • All members will carry a membership card with them at all times.  Record the license tag and vehicle make/model of anyone suspected trespassing.  Anyone on the property who cannot produce a valid membership card should be considered as trespassing and treated as such.
  • Members will not damage or interfere with any of the farming operations. When a farmer is working in a field, no member or guest will hunt that field.
  • Use only pre-established roads and paths to traverse the property; do not drive across any field or waterway with a vehicle or ATV.
  • All vehicles, including ATVS, will be parked at designated parking areas.  (Note: Those physically disabled are allowed to drive in the interior of the property as long as it is coordinated with the other hunters for that day)
  • All hunting will be on a first come basis. Members or guests may hunt any permanent stand erected on club property.
  • All deer carcasses will be removed from the skinning shed location the day of the hunt.  Leaving remains throughout the day after a morning hunt or overnight after an evening hunt is discouraged.
  • There will be no cutting of any standing trees greater than 2 inches in diameter.  In addition, no metallic nails may be driven into any tree.
  • No littering.  Do not leave trash around in the field, around any stand location or at any designated parking area.
  • Members and guests utilizing the clubhouse facility are expected to clean up after themselves.  Trash should not pile up for an extended period of time and should be taken to the nearby drop location on a weekly basis at a minimum.
  • No shoes/boots are to be worn in the clubhouse; they are to be removed at the door.
  • There will be four scheduled workdays during the year.  Members are required to attend at least three of them.  Members unable to attend are expected to pay a $25 materials fee.
  • While at the clubhouse, members will park in an orderly fashion, not blocking the known thoroughfare around the house.  Do not park for an extended time in the area between the back of the clubhouse and the green shed.
  • To ensure members are not disturbed while on a stand location, the hours from sunrise to 10AM, and 3 PM to sunset, are deemed quiet hours.  These hours are set aside for hunting, and all other activities during this timeframe should be limited.  Any work outside of these hours should be coordinated with the day’s hunters.
  • Absolutely no joy riding.  This includes cars, trucks and especially ATVs.
  • Only during the hours from 12-1PM Monday thru Friday, and 11AM-1PM on Sundays, can ATVs be used for the purpose of putting out corn or stand maintenance.  Usage shall be limited to pre-established paths or roadways.  Outside of those hours, ATVs are to be parked at designated parking areas and hunters are to walk to and from their stand locations.  There is to be no ATV usage outside of those designated hours anywhere on club property.
  • Members are allowed to use their ATV to retrieve downed deer only outside of designated quiet hours.

Guest Rules

  • All guests are expected to abide by all club rules.
  • Sponsor members are responsible morally and financially for the actions of their guests.
  • Members are allowed to have a maximum of two guests at any given time.  In addition any member may only bring the same guests three times during the hunting season.
  • There will be a $25.00 per day per guest fee.  (Note:  A member’s spouse and/or their children who are under the age of 18 and still in school are not obligated to pay guest fees.)
  • All guest fees must be paid the day of the visit or before the sponsor member returns to hunt.
  • Any deer harvested by a guest will count for and/or against the sponsor member’s annual limit.  An antlered deer taken by a guest will count as their sponsor member’s buck.
  • No guest will be allowed to hunt on club property without a sponsor member.  Non-paying young hunters of a paid member do not qualify as a sponsor member.

Harvest Rules

  • Beginning the first day of archery season, each member is entitled to harvest one antlered buck, six points or better.
  • Once a member harvests three does, that member is entitled to a second antlered buck of 8 points or better, for a maximum of two antlered bucks in a single hunting season.  Regardless of the size of the first buck, the second must be eight (8) points or better; the first buck and second buck are not interchangeable.
  • Any member harvesting a buck with five points or less shall incur a $250.00 fine.
  • Any member harvesting a second buck of seven points or less shall incur a $250.00 fine.
  • A qualifying point must be 1” or longer from all sides of the point.  The ring test is not considered a valid measurement.
  • Any member harvesting a button buck shall incur a $50.00 fine.
  • Any member harvesting a deer weighing less than 60 pounds will incur a $25.00 fine.
  • Any member’s child under the age of 12 may harvest one buck of any size without incurring a fine.  This is a ‘lifetime’ one-buck exclusion.  It is not on a year-by-year basis.  This is a freeby buck and does not count as the members buck.
  • Any deer harvested by a guest will count for and/or against the sponsor member’s annual limit.  An antlered deer taken by a guest will count as their sponsor member’s buck.
