~The Thunderstorm~ From out of the darkness it came in the night... It started with the whipping of the Wind. The tree limbs were being punished for some unknown reason by his mighty breath, as they would bow down in his presence and let the Wind pass by in anger. The Rain began to softly fall, but quickly picked up the pace with each passing cloud. It wanted nothing more than to make puddles where there were none before. The Rain pelted down hard and heavy on anything that got in its way. The Rain would show no mercy. Then in the distance, far, far away, a Thunder clap was heard. It was not frightening... at first, but the Thunder rolled closer and the claps got louder. Not missing a beat, the Thunder reached the Wind, noisely right outside my window. By now, the Thunder was deafening, spewing out all kinds of obscenities on the earth and thrashing around with the Wind. As if not to be left out, the Lightning joined the stormy tirade. She shone brightly, if just for a second, for all creation to see. Sometimes just flashes of brilliant light, and others, striking bolts of many swords. She would not be out-done by the likes of Thunder, Wind and Rain! They all together cussed and sweared at everything dry and quiet, throwing a temper tantrum for Mother Earth. Inside their homes, their sleepy audience began to tire of their charades, and closed their eyes and turned their heads away. They would all leave together, to go to another place they could awaken in fright. And there, in the darkness, only Rain was left to linger for a while longer, whispering her teardrops on rooftops and roads, before deciding to move onwards into the night, trying to catch up with The Others. Calm would come once again. Peace. Quiet. Go back to sleep in the stillness of the night. |
