Anatomy of a Lower Molar

An adult deer has a total of thirty two teeth....8 in the lower front (6 incisors and 2 modified canines), 6 pre-molars and 6 molars on the top, and 6 pre-molars and 6 molars on the lower jawbone.(Three each per side) There are no teeth in the front of the mouth, on top. We will be dealing only with the lower jaw-teeth when using the tooth wear aging method.

The main parts of a deers molar that we will use are :

A Lingual Crest
B Dentine
C Enamel
D Infundibulum
E Gum Line
