Well I'm very happy to say that
on May 1 1998 and after 2 years of saying I
almost got one today. All my scouting
and planing finally paid off hunting
only a couple of yards away from
my treestand on New York's opening day
I was rewarded. I was set up by
5:30 am when the first tree call was heard
in the pines were Only 20 minutes
earlier I walked through. My first tree
call
was interrupted by a toms gobble
not more than 50 to 60 yards away. As
the sun broke the darkness of the
night I heard several birds flydown to the
forest floor, only one yelp and
the tom was gobbling with every call I gave
his gobble became louder and louder
till I spotted not one But two white
heads emerge from the pins several
contentment purrs and another gobbler
appeared from behind the first
two in full strut. At 6:10 am my first day of
1998 turkey Season came to an abrupt
but perfect end. Their he lay 41
yards away from were I sat not
more than 45 minutes. Weighing in at 17 3/4
lbs. with an 8 inch beard and 3/4
inch spurs.
