07/00 to Present:
Operations Manager, Sumas Cogeneration Facility, Calpine Corporation, WA

Supervises Operations Group of the Sumas Cogen plant; assuring operation's reliability, efficiency, safety and compliance with environmental standards; provides required output and control operating costs while satisfying contractual and regulatory requirements; provides information on the plant's status and operating problems so that corrective and preventive maintenance tasks are scheduled in a timely and efficient manner; planning and coordinating overall plant activities; provides supervisory responsibility of the plant's operating personnel, including work direction, shift coverage scheduling, preparing individual performance evaluations and determining training needs; develops and enforces safety procedures and awareness for the operating staff so that a safe workplace is maintained; provides reports covering the plant's performance as directed by the plant manager so that accurate summaries of the plant's technical and financial performance are available on a regular basis; maintains knowledge of and enforce compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety standards dictated by government regulations; develops annual operating budget requirements, order parts and consumable supplies with the proper authorizations to control expenditures within approved guidelines; Covers plant manager's duties and responsibilities both within and outside the plant's organization so that proper coverage will be provided in his absence.

08/91 to 07/00: Senior Control Room Operator, Sumas Cogeneration Facility, Calpine Corporation, WA

Lead operator in charge of plant operations (125 MW facility) performing those duties listed in previous positions held. During facility construction, startup, and commercial operation wrote all Plant Administrative Procedures, Industrial Hygiene Manual, Facility Safety Manual, Facility Emergency Plan, Gas Pipeline and Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems Operation and Maintenance Manuals, and Hazardous Materials Process Safety Management Manuals to meet all Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements. 


07/89 to 08/91:
Senior Power Plant Operator, Aidlin Geothermal Project, Calpine Corporation, CA

Lead operator in charge of plant operations (20 MW facility), monitors, operates and maintains geothermal central control center,turbine generators, auxiliary and field equipment. Maintains responsibility for chemical control. Prepares written reports, operator training, all plant operating, electrical maintenance, and plant administrative procedures. Reviews operator log sheets and equipment clearance tags. Directs or assists in plant security. Performs equipment surveillance and efficiency improvement tests. Directs or assists in switching operations. Maintains site integrity as to contamination and hazardous materials; plans and organizes work during assigned shifts. Participates in maintenance activities as required. Performs programming and configuration of DCS computer systems. Makes timely decisions about problems occurring during shift. Trains operators or apprentices and monitors progress in the operators training program. 


05/88 to 07/89:
Work Control Evaluator/Planner/Schedular, Operations Department, Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Arizona Public Service, AZ

Performed all work control processes including work request evaluation, impact review, and processing, writing work packages/orders, preforming front and back end reviews on work packages for operational impact, and scheduled work package performance to appropriate work centers. Researched SIMS data base and developed on line system outage fragnets to satisfy technical specifications, preventive maintenance requirements, enhance system availability, and/or return systems to full operations. Performed site modification impact reviews, temporary modification impact review, design change package tracking, annunciator problem tracking, control room discrepancy tracking, Q class scaffolding tracking, technical specification component condition record tracking, and maintained short notice outage work file. 


05/83 to 05/88:
NRC Licensed Reactor Operator / Auxiliary Operator (No. III/II), Operations Department, Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, APS, AZ

Completed nonlicensed, licensed nuclear operation qualification standards, and performed licensed training. Acted as control room operator and as an auxiliary operator standing all area watches. Operated Units 1, 2, and 3 , 1300 MW CE system 80 Plants, during construction, hot functional testing, low power physics testing, start up, and extended full power operation. 


02/83 to 05/83:
Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, Utilities Division, Refrig. & Air Conditioning Branch, US ARMY Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD

Installed, repaired, and operated a variety of commercial and domestic refrigeration and A/C equipment. Operated and maintained Johnson's control environment for nerve gas / chemical warfare agent laboratory. 


1980 to 1983:
Engine Room and Auxiliaries Supervisor, "A" Division LPO, MM1 (SS) (E 6), Engineering Department, USS JOUETT (CG 29), US NAVY

As Engine Room Supervisor was responsible for safe operation of propulsion plant and all watch personnel. As Auxiliaries Supervisor, "A" Division LPO, was responsible for operation and maintenance of all engineering equipment not propulsion related. Including ships HVAC, refrig. equipment, gas turbine and diesel generators, radar and sonar cooling systems, electronic dry high low pressure air systems, electro hydraulic steering gear, anchor windlass, capstans, boat davits, boat engines, hotel services such as ships laundry/galley equipment, steam heating and hot water systems, and other misc. equipment. Supervised all divisional personnel (20 to 30). As Engineering Department 3M Coordinator was responsible for scheduling corrective and preventive maintenance, tracking machinery history, and providing supply support for all 12 work centers in the Engineering Department. 


1977 to 1980:
S5W Power Plant Mechanic/Operator/Engine Room Supervisor, "M" Division, MM2 (SS) (E 5), Engineering Department, USS THOMAS JEFFERSON SSBN 618 GOLD, US NAVY

Supervised operating personnel in safe and proper operation of S5W nuclear power plant in all engineering stations and informed Engineering Officer of all operations and any unusual conditions. Acted as one of two emergency Primary system welders. 


1974 to 1977:
Nuclear Trainee, MM3 (E 4), Conventional Machinist Mate, US NAVY

Attended a number of schools including Navy Nuclear Power School (see education). Served aboard USS LEXINGTON CVT 16 as a MM3 standing throttleman and messenger watches.
