It's been a while since I've updated this page and a lot has happened.
When I last left it, two of the bows were to floor tiller and one was a
spliced job glued up. Another one had a problem with a funky growth
ring. Well, the spliced one didn't make it as a high weight bow due
to some mistakes on my part and some characteristics of the billets.
I gave it away as a 48# bow. The two at floor tiller survived and
are Steve and Darren's bows. The funky growth ring one was a character.
It even has a hole through the top limb. I got it all tillered and
beautiful and then it lifted a splinter. I got it wrapped and so
far it survives although it shows signs of demise. We'll see.
It's Kenny's bow and he is willing to take a chance. I had to start
from scratch on my bow and used a character stave that has lots of snake
and even a big knot halfway through the side on the top limb. I love
it. Here's a picture of 3 of the bows.
L-R Me, John Scifres, with a 65# at 26" osage. It's 66" NTN and
awesome!
Steve, with a 58# at 27" osage that is awesome!
Kenny, with 60# at 27" osage that is awesome
Darren's bow turned out to be 54# at 27" and it is awesome.
Here's a closer look at Steve...
...and Kenny...
...and Me!
Here's a look at all the gear except Kenny's cool arrow cases he made.
The Bows are by me. Steve made the quivers. And Darren made
the arrows. You can see the knot in my bow, closest to you, in the
upper limb.
I put a light brown stain on the bows that I got from Gray Ghost Archery.
It is called "Mother Earth Brown".
The quivers are worn with the fletch toward the back and you reach in
the front to get your arrow. Very quiet and no flagging of game.
Steve added the fletch hoods made of scuba diving suit material.
The arrows are larch with either a yellow dip and 3 chartreuse feathers
(Steve and Me) or a white dip and white cock fletch (Kenny and Darren).

We spent some time today (8/24/2002) tuning arrows and shooting.
One of Kenny's first shots
And Steve's.
Kenny's first shot with broadheads
And the results...one dead elk :-)
I'll hopefully get to add some pics of Darren's bow before we leave
on the 5th of September. If not, you can see it leaning on his dead
6X6 when we get back!
