HotHedge 2005

August (yes I said August) 13, 2005

Cutting hedge in Ohio.  The cutting wasn't bad...it was the splitting.  Thankfully Ron had a 4 wheeler and we could pretty much drive to the tree.  Really one of the easiest days of cutting I've ever had.  Even got a catered farm breakfast out of the deal.  Thanks go out to our host Ron Otto and his brother Steve for helping out.

On the drive in I caught the sunrise.  I had to leave my house in Indy at 4:30 am EST trying to beat the heat.  Almost ran over a coyote and 3 deer on the way there :)

Mickey and Ron after the cutting and splitting was done.  I was too hot to take pics at the time of the work.  It was over 80 degrees when we started and over 90 when we finished about 11:00.

These all came from one stump that had sprouted 4 brothers. They are small but we got 3 stave lengths from one of them and at least staves and billets from the rest.  If I thought I was gonna be making bows another 20 years, I would have let them grow but...

Mickey's half (really more like 3/5 since I got all the billets)  Thanks Mickey!

My haul.

And the whole crew:  Ron Otto, Steve Otto, Mickey Lotz, and John Scifres
In the background is one of the big ones that got away!
