A (white???) ash bow being made for my buddy Kenny. If you have looked at the other pages on my site, you'll notice I started making Kenny a Torges style osage. Well I missed weight on that one so I'm trying again :-)
Draw length: 29"
Target weight: 60#
Style: Flat bellied flatbow, assymetrical limb length, rigid handle
NTN length: 68" (69.5" total length)
Handle width/length: 1.5" W X 4" L (Bulbous-Torges Style)
Length of fades: 3"
Max. Width of limbs: 1 15/16" for 1/2 of limbs tapering to nocks
Nock width: 1/2" for now - final, 3/8" or so
I got this stave from Mickey Lotz, aka The Ferret, at the Ozarks Selfbow Jamboree. It came from a large log so the crown is minimal. I left quite a bit of inner bark "islands" for now on the back. I'll likely try to finish it out with them intact for a cool camo appearance.
Here are the initial photos.

Here we go. I'm not quite to floor tiller. The limbs are
bending some (???) but not enough to get a read on them. I'm gonna
rasp them a bit. For now, here's where they are putting moderate
pressure on them :-)
Let me get this kink out of my back and we'll get to it :-)
One thing I notice as a devout "osage cultist" is that this ash is way
too easy to work. Ya' really gotta pay attention to how much wood
you're taking off. Also, tillering by the grain is pretty accurate
at least so far. Take a look at this photo and see what I mean.
You can really use the islands of grain as a guide. That's definitely
not the case with osage :-)
