Row One: 1) This is "BorokenArrow1"'s Daughter
2) Is a picture someone took at a shoot of a tiny entrant into archery and he called it simply, "Classic Little Girl". we see a lot of them at the shoots but there is always room for more.
3) Here is Helen Thomas under her dad's watchful eye.
4) Isobel Samuel showing a fellow young archer her form.
5) Karen Campbell takes aim at a distant Bison - bet she nailed it too.
6) Matt Fowler's Daughter working on her form and looking good.
Row Two: 1) This is just one of "Pointy Stick"'s girls.
2) And "Texas Tinman"'s Jadyn draws down on a pink panther, I do believe.
3) "THP"'s Daughter with a great stance.
4) & 5) Are both of "VArcher"'s Youngest Daughter , at an inside shoot, and at an outside one, displaying more great form to finish this piece up, for now at least. Truthfully there should never be an end to the long line of girls and ladies in the sport of archery.
Now a few Full Draw pics I got to take at the 2008 NC Traditional Archery Championships held in Hickory, NC, the weekend after the Baltimore shoot in May. Somehow, mostly, with the exception of two, I only got to take pics on the practice range but again we get to see youngsters swelling our ranks - and isn't that what it's really all about???
6) This is Ben, he and his Dad shot up behind our group and after taking a picture for us we let them shoot through. I took that opportunity to catch Ben in his uphill shot.
Row Three: 1) Shortly after that another Father and Son team came up behind us, and stayed there the rest of the way, so I also got a picture of young Bob at Full draw.
2) This is Kaitlin, shooting the bow her Dad, "n2everythg", had just finished for her. Kaitin is a serious shooter (and not bad either). She purposely takes one of the widest stances I think I've seen but whatever works, right?
3) & 4) These two are either Brothers, or good friends, who were sharing the same bow on the practice range and having a great time.
5) & 6) This sunshine haired little guy came to the practice rang with his Dad in all seriousness, and just check out the form on this little beginner.
Hickory was so much fun this year that I, most of the time, forgot to take my camera off my hip, at least when folks were at full draw anyway, even the guys I was shooting with. I'll do better at ATAR (I hope).
Row Four: 1), 2), and 3) Some of the folks off Paleoplanet, that live in CA, went to IL for a shoot and I was fortunate enough to get 3 good Full Draws off that thread - Ken, Aimee, John.
4) Byron Ferguson at Full Draw for a double barrel shot, from his shooting demonstration at Baltimore. What a fine gentleman and good representative/ambassador for our sport.
5) A dear cyber-friend, Iliana of Bulgaria, and "Sharo" of paleoplanet, in an unusual picture by Tom Mills (the founder). He couldn't get a still Full Draw so he took this trypto-type, FD/release/release sequence off his video. Iliana, along with Kosio and her husband Vlad are at this moment holding the Second Annual EuroShoot in Bulgaria. Paleo planet has two members attending (Jon and Ken) and I'm sure we'll have some good FDs from their reports. Iliana was captured in this pic, in CA, during her first ever visit to the USA and attending oner of the monthly get-to-gathers of the Pasadena bunch out there. She is shooting a fine bow made for her, and presented there, by "Attenurb", a most talented young/old bowyer.
6) Good friend (and shooter) of a few years now, James Wrenn of NC and Tradgang, with his first ever Osage Self Bow. He said it was a struggle but he is pleased with it, and it sure looks great to these ol' eyes. James had made laminated bows before but this was his first from an Osage stave. He blames it on my having done one just prior to his attempt - LOL. I told him I was proud to be to blame, in that case.
Row Five: 1), 2), & 3) Back (from the cover of these pages and elsewhere in them) is Manny of Hawaii. Manny has a current thread on paleoPlanet showing many of his fine Guava bows and I purloined his full Draw pics. That first beauty, BTW, is his 4th ever Guava self bow - a great one and still going strong. A great bowyer and fine person.
4) Shamus' Significant Other, seen during the winter in these pages when she first took up the bow. Now here with her new bow and you can already see marked improvement of comfort with her stance and draw. I believe this was a late addition to Killie's "Shootin' Ain't for Girls" thread, as I recall. If not it should have been. You go Girls!
5) Bow of The Month for may Self Bow, on Primitive Archer, was this little beauty made by Dana M and presented to Julia Rose, the Daughter of "Calendar Girl" of that site. It was built and presented at the TN Classic. As Dana says, the bow is a little heavy for Julia Rose now but she'll grow into it, and then we'll see a full Full Draw. The bow is Maple 30# @ 24" and was presented with 6 Red Osier arrows. The big smile on Julia Rose's face tells the whole story - bless her heart.
6) This sweet Bamboo Backed Osage took Laminated BOM on PA for May. Made by "Mullet", shown here in his Full Draw. A BBO of 50# @ 28", 60" NTN. Mullet Started this static recurve then put it down, then took it to the TN Classic and got it shooting there, Then took it up again at home and finished it. He camo'd the bamboo backing with Green Rit dye and Q-tips and than put Spar Urethane on it.
Row Six: 1), 2), & 3) The "My 3 Sons" of "Gray Rhino", an Alaskan living in the Fiji Islands, and of tradgang. The boys are all three shooting bows from Maddog Archery, by Mike Mecredy, and they all love them, and shoot them well. They were shooting at a T-Rex box and as GR said, "They had many Passthroughs." Too bad these boys can't be at ATAR this year to shoot at the Dinosaur targets on the Kids Range and gather up their share of Dino Gifts.
4) "Graeme K" of Sidney, Australia and Paleoplanet at Full Draw with a Holmegaard style bow he recently made from Eucalyptus (Grey Ironbark). The pretty, well tillered example is 70.5" ntn and draws 40#. Graeme says it draws and shoots real nice. I gotta build me one of those Holmegaards, I have it stuck in my craw, especially when i see nice ones like this.
5) "Lefty", Chris Klossing, of Iowa and Tradgang, and his sidekick, Brier, at a weekend of fun. Ya gotta love it. What a great Father/Daughter trad archery pic!
6) and here is Brier going solo on a respectable shot at a Cariboo.
Row Seven: 1) Arwin Depue of MI and Tradgang posts this Full Draw pic of his Daughter Casey who already switched from wheels (with which she bagged one deer) to traditional bows and hopes to take her first deer with it this coming season. Best of luck, Casey.
2) James Parker, "Robustus" knapper, Bowyer, forest ranger, From NC, builds beautiful laminated Bamboo bows, as you can see in the picture. The one being Full Drawn by his Wife, Becca, is a BBB and took Laminated BOM in Primitive Archers Magazine for the month of June. Congrats to friend James. BTW Becca also makes some beautiful Native American crafts. A very talented and nice family - meeet them at the trad shoots around the Southland.
3) Manny of Hawaii in his "Summer Cut" was voted as June Self Bow winner in PA magazine. This is not one of his usual fine Guava bows though, this is an equally outstanding Eucalyptus self bow. Congrats to friend Manny also.
4) Nathan Elliot's wife asked if she could go shoot the bow with him (after years of watching him make and go off to shoot bows). He quickly (in one day) made a lighter weight bow than usual, wanting the experience to be good - and not lose the moment. The bow came out 35# @ 24" and off they went. Her first day - she loved it. All the way home she could talk of nothing else and was conjecturing about how heavy a bow she might be able to shoot, and how well. Nathan gave her the cautions about not overbowing oneself to start but quickly set about building her a better bow.
5) By their next outing, Ms Elliot had her very own Ash bow of 39# @ 25"
6) She loved it even more - and look at that form. Step over on the shooting line, guys, another serious lady archer is born . No telling where this will lead but for sure there will be lots of family fun ahead for the Elliots. Great job , both of you.
Row Eight: 1) & 2) In discussing (on Paleoplanet forum) with Nathan Elliot about ladies shooting, and possible weight bows they can build up to shoot, our ol' friend Thimo posted a couple pics of his wife, Jules, shooting the beauty of a Sassafras bow that he made for her. Don't you just love it when guys wives, girl friends, Daughters, etc. join them in archery, and swell our ranks? Lots of room for the ladies, in my humble opinion. Thanks for shareing, guys 'n gals.
A bit of an unusual situation here - we have a slew (34) of real great Full Draw pics of various traditional shooters, taken at ETAR '08, the shoot, of tradgang members by fellow tradganger, T.J. Only trouble is, at this time, we have no archer names or bow info with the exception of two pics. However, that will not stop us from enjoying these outstanding depictions of the arching of the traditional bows. If and when we are supplied statistics we will edit the facts in. It is only fitting that we start this section of pics with one of the thoughtful photographer, T.J., and then the one other we have info on at this time. This section of Full Draws from Eastern Traditional Archery Rendezvous '08, held in the mountains of Potter Co, PA, at Denton Hill, will extend about half way onto the following Traditional Bows Drawn, Page18.
3) T.J. the intrepid photographer who braved the scowls of shooting in the shooter's faces - LOL. I know that feeling well, but it also has it benefits of newly met friends. T.J. is drawing his W.C. Matlock 62", 53.5# @ 28", Timber Rattler skin backed.
4) This is Kenny, "4runr", also shooting "Hope"
5) ETAR001 "Stone Knife", James
6) ETAR002 "JL", Gerald Long of Jessup, MD - Tradgang Member # 98
Row Nine: 1) ETAR003 T.J. also
2) ETAR004 Ron Rice of NY - "nybowman" on tradgang was the first to send in his info. Thank you, Ron.
3) ETAR005 "BobW", Bob Westfall with his Shrew Classic of 56". It is 59# and he stretches it to a long 32" (As Bob says, "Run!")
4) ETAR006 "Tippit", Jeff. Retired Veternarian sometimes known as "Doc" (go figure - LOL) and a fine maker of knives.
5) ETAR007 This'd be Joe Lash, the infamous "Whip" - LOL. Joe is shooting his RER LX T/D, 57# @ 29", though he says he wasn't quite there yet in this pic ;^).
6) ETAR008
Row Ten: 1) ETAR009
2) ETAR010
3) ETAR011 - also Kenny, "4runr", was a quick second getting info in on this pic. Here friend Kenny is shooting his brand new Hill Country Bow ("The Falcon") and it is 60", 48# @ 27"
4) ETAR012
5) ETAR013
6) ETAR014 T.J. again, still shooting his good looking Matlock bow
