Row One: 1), 2), & 3) As promised here is the older Brother of that little cutie on the previous page, and his new Cedar bow, "Halfprimitive", Sean. His latest creation is 63" ntn, 47# @ 27", Linseed Oil and wax finish, with Osage overlays. Not being to satisfied with the lack of contrast, Sean probably will change the overlays to some dark wood like Walnut. Picture 3) really shows the contrast of the two colors in the Cedar though. Great job and nice Full Draws, Sean.
4), 5), & 6) Manny of Hawaii, as seen on this section's cover page was out of touch for a while after these pages were started. He therefore was not aware of his picture and write up until just a month or so ago. He was so moved by it (he's really a super nice, appreciative guy) that he decided he wanted to make for your host, yours truly, one of his Guava Character bows. Here is that very same Manny (clean shaven now-a-days) at Full Draw with the beautiful bow he made for me. I am so humbled and honored by his generousity and his skill. I will cherish this bow for my lifetime, and you will also see me at full Draw with it, after it arrives here. Bless you and thank you, Manny. The bow is 65 1/2" ntn, 40# @ 27", with Zebrawood overlays, and Natural Jute handle wrap. Manny's own Lava Stain and Spar Urethane finish. Are those magnificent graceful lines, curves, and tips or what? Her name is "Hula Girl".
Row Two: 1), 2), & 3) At the same time Manny was making my Guava bow, he was also making an even tougher Character Guava for "Ghost Dog", Bob, Of The West Coast (CA). This splendid Guava, demonstrated at full Draw by Manny, is 64"ntn, 58# @ 27", with an (unusual) Cambrium backing, linseed oil and shellac finish, and Hemp handle wrap. Outstanding bows, each, from the "Guava Guru" of Hawaii - and all with basic hand tools only. Also Great Full Draw pics, and we thank you for sharing, Manny.
4) Joey Ogden sent this FD in to me. I agreed it is a good "Sherwood Forrest" Background there. Thank you, Joey.
............................................................................
"Greetings! You may have heard of me. I am Joey Ogden ("Maid Marioun"s son). The one who took the picture in page one row eight? Here is a nice pic of me shooting a white ash/black cherry bow by Marc St. Louis. I like the background. Taken by my Mom. Nice page!"
5) This is Rob Taylor of MT and tradgang with his new Korean Hwarang "horsebow". Here he is drawing it with two under "fingerdraw", and ...
6) here Rob is drawing it with the thumb ring and classic "thumbdraw". The Korean bow is 52# @ 30" - measured from center of limb, at arrow pass, to end of nock.
Row Three: 1) Skyler Wilson (seen earlier on these pages, in a Backlit Full Draw) with another Full Draw and proudly displaying some of his Birthday goodies from Frank and Shell Skucanek and Mom and Dad. From AL and tradgang.com .
2) Gavynn Hesterly, Daughter of Scott, "Onestringer" who makes and sells custom Arrow Wraps. Mo and tradgang.com. Bow specs to fo;;ow (?)
3) From Germany, Cord Fricke sends this Full draw pics of a couple more of his friends in archery. On the left is Martin with a 53# Black Locust selfbow, and on the right Mustafa is drawing one of Cord's bows, a 54# Hickory Flatbow. Thanks a heap for joining us here on these pages, guys.
4) Thimo with his latest bow. He wanted to make a basic medieval type bow but not of warbow pondage. Instead a working hunting bow but strong enough to handle and "invader" of your piece of bog. So here he is at a kneeling Full Draw with his Elm English Longbow of 75# @ 28" - no finish applied yet. Nice bow, nice pic (taken by his four year old Son and "assistant" bowyer), Thimo.
5) The Paleo Malta Archery Group (It's start was seen on the prior page) is now getting together to shoot about every weekend and have picked up a new Member, Chris. The two girls were there also and Klaus was presumably taking pictures. "Censu", Noel, at Full Draw while new member Chris watches.
6) Chris tries his hand at Full Draw (they were having a "Clout shoot" this day) with the first bow "Censu" made, a Ash board bow. Noel says he is going to get busy and make Chris a bow of his own. Thanks for keeping us updated, Noel.
Row Four: 1) Zack of CA, the nephew of "Toxophileken", in a new Full Draw pic with a Black Locust bow his Uncle made for him. Good Form, Zack.
2) & 3) "Saw Filer", Shannon, of KY and primitivearcher.com with a beautiful little Osage bow he just finished, at a traditional Full Draw, and then a more classic Full Draw (for following tiller). This little beauty is 58" and 46# @ 27" and will be a June contender for Self Bow of The Month.
4) "Brutus Hedgeapple", also of KY, and outdoorcore.com, at Full Draw with his brand new Crooked Stic bow from Mike Miller. This bow is nicknamed "Smoke" and is 53# @ 28", Red Elm limbs, Jakoba Riser, and Curly Maple Overlays.
5) Barrett Zeigler is only 2 1/2 years old, so his Dad Tim helped with some starting form tips. Then it was time to solo with a Full Draw of the bow Tim made for him. A red Oak Board bow of 4# @ 14", leather rest and handle, Massandruba Riser and tips, backed with f/g sheetrock tape and a layer of Camo Material.
6) Amazeing how quick young'uns start catching on, isn't it? As demonstrated by Barrett here. BTW the bow is Tim's first - imagine the bows he'll be making soon - and it's already time for a heavier one for Barrett. Thanks, Tim and Barrett, for sharing your joy in archery with us.
Row Five: 1) "jignfrog", Ron, of primitivearcher.com at Full draw with a recently finished Bamboo Backed Ipe bow (BBOs are fast becoming an obsession with me - LOL). His is 64", 53# @ 24" and has Osage tip overlays. It's nickname is "Chaser" after his recently deceased, and sorely missed, dog. He had just clipped the dog so was able to make some silencers for the bowstring out of his pet's hair. Makes this neat bow very special to Ron. BTW, Ron's Daughter, Autum, was seen on the previous page, in Row Ten, with one of his bows also.
2) This Full Draw sent to me by "Robtattoo", Rob Peel, of tradgang.com and Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Rob is drawing a Pronhorn bow of 60" and 72# @ 28". Besides Archery, Rob has a penchant for motorcycles and cooking. Thank you for the great FD pic, Rob, and your support on tradgang threads and endeavors. Please feel free to send Full Draw pics of yourself and/or friends and family anytime you care to.
3) & 4) DanaM, of MI and primitivearcher.com, with his just finished Linen Backed Ash at Full Draw. The pretty little bow is 62 1/2", 50# @ 26", is finished with Black rit Dye and Tru-oil, with a Hemp Cordage handle wrap. Dana says it has fretted a little in a couple places but he's hoping for the best. We do too, Dana.
5) & 6) Our friend, "Asiertxu", from Basque Country near the great Pyrenees Mountains witha couple Full Draws and beautiful scenery. The bow he made to trade for a Nice little knife with hand made scabbard and a Arm Guard as well. It is a very pretty Black Locust of about 65" and 35# @ 28". Thanks for the great pics, Asier.
Row Six: 1) "Ol' school", David, of Texas and Outdoorcore.com, sent me this Full draw pic with his latest selfbow, a 2 piece T/D of Osage, with Cocobolo tip overlays. It is 55# @ his 29" draw. It's a real looker, David, and thanks for the fine pic - please send more anytime. Bet she's a shooter too.
2), 3), & 4) It's time to give this Ol' Hoss another Full Draw spread, thanks to friend Manny of Hawaii. I now am the proud owner and possessor of the character Guava bow, "Hula Girl", that he made for me, and these are pics from our first outing together, on my back yard range. As posted before (with Manny), she is 65 1/2" ntn, 42# (here in the mainland) @ 27". She is stained with Manny's own "Lava Stain" and coated with Spar Urethane (& Johnson's Paste Wax that I added), with a natural Jute handle wrap, and Zebrawood tip overlays. I can tell you that hula girl shoots smooth, fast, and hits with surprising authority for her weight. I am impressed, and I love the bow and shooting it. Thank you forever, Manny. That is my shooting tower in the background of the middle picture. There will be more (and varied) pics of "Hula Girl" posted to Gallery, Pg 14 soon also. BTW Manny's talents as the bowyer of this bow placed it in close contention for Bow of The Month selfbow in PAs June competition.
5) "Greenchicken", Phil, of CA and paleoplanet.com, starts off another great set (of 5) Full Draws pics from a shoot/knap-in/Atlatl meet at Wrightwood in CA. This time Phil was also the cameraman. The bow is his Ash selfbow of about 45# @ 27". Thank you, Phil for the pictorial on paleoplanet and these fine Full Draw pics here.
6) "Toxophileken", Ken, adds color to the proceedings in his tie-dye shirt (I've had a few of those) and a Full Draw with his Hickory selfbow, "Milestone" . 80# @ 31"
Row Seven: 1) Then comes "Woodbear", Dave, with a wider type of Ash bow named "By The Numbers". This bow impressed Ken and the others with the way it moves into a full draw - "Poetry in motion" was one comment. Aprox. 50# @ 26"
2) "Greensnake", John, (showing wisdom) wore desert camo to help combat the 100 degree CA heat. Shooting his beautiful Yellow Bamboo backed Ipe (love those BBIs). It's about 55# @ 26"
3) The last of the 5 CA shooters is Derek Jamison at Full Draw with his Maple ELB. Ken tells me Derek usually shoots for his bows to come in about 50# @ 31" Thanks for taking us along on your shoot, guys.
4), 5), & 6) Thimo of Paleoplanet (seen many times in these pages) is a most prolific artist and bowyer who is very talented and inventive. He currently has a new thread/pictorial on that forum called "Year of the Warbow Bow". In it, he chronicles his romance with the heavy warbows, their special Full Draws and their capabilities for distance and penetration. A most interesting pictorial on those special exceedingly heavy draw weight bows.
Row Eight: 1) Recognize this guy? Know what he's doing? Well he is cellebrating his 20th wedding anniversary with a Full Draw on his NEW custom Black Widow bow that his wife secretly bought him for their anniversary.
2) Here is a better look at him and the bow of Kingwood. He is one of our well known (on the traditional forums) active Army Officers serving our country, Scott "Jumper" Nicholson. If you would like to see what his wife, Allyson, had put on the Lower Limb of the bow, just click for a look. Congrats to you guys and many more to come. The bow? A BW T/D PSR X of 58" and 61# @ 28"
3) We are fortunate to have been supplied with more Full Draw pictures from the Wrightwood Shoot in CA shown in pics above. This string of 8 pictures were taken by the gent in this picture, "toxophileken". Ken is at Full Draw here with his Hickory selfbow and backed up by a Cholla plant, prevalent in CA. Thanks for the pics Ken.
4) "Greenchicken", Phil, shoots the target with the red dots, that was set up for shooters to choose a pair of "snake eyes" to shoot between.
5) "Greensnake", John, Displays more good form at Full Draw.
6) Jon didn't shoot this shoot as he was busy finishing up the nice tiller on his latest Elm selfbow, shown at Full Draw here.
Row Nine: 1) "Scorpionking", also known as Big Jim, at Full Draw with his impressive sinew backed Black Locust bow.
2), 3), and 4) are more Full Draws of "Woodbear", Dave, with his (also) impressive, wide Ash bow.
5) This lovely lady archer is Joy Duff, wife of JD Duff, seen on the previous page in some Beach shots with his warbow. Joy's bow JD made for her out of an unusual, but very nice, combination of woods It is an Ocean Spray backed Yew, "D" style bow. 52" ntn, 35# @ 25". It also has horn and Abalone tip overlays, and is a real contender for the June Bow of the Month in PA's monthly Backed bow competition.
6) "YewArcher", SJ Moore, makes a return to our pages at Full Draw with a Acumawi Replica bow that is in hot contention for June self bow of the month on primitivearcher.com. SJ has been working towards making these type bows for quite some time and now has one he is really pleased with as a true replica. Most of his bows he gives away but this one he says he will keep as his personal and plans to hunt with it this Fall. The bow is even made of Yew Heartwood, as the originals were. He started out on his quest using Osage until he was sure of the process. It is sinew backed (3 courses) and 44" ntn, 46" over all length. 45# @ 25" Click here for a definitive pic of some of the unusual parts of the bow.
Row Ten: 1) More great form at Full Draw, displayed by the "Significant Other" of "Shamus", Johnathan Hall, of tradgang.com and IL. She is using a venerable Ben pearson bow of 30# @ 28" This was the lady's first time ever shooting a traditional bow, and by the end of the session with Shamus, she was shooting pie plate sized groups at about 15 - 20 yds. Way to go!
2) This is 6 year old Easton Birchfield, 6 months after being introduced to tradgang.com and traditional archery. His Father, Kevin, "bowhunterksb32", and "Osagetree", Joe Weed did the introducing and now Easton is a frogging machine, and trad gear builder in the making. Here Easton is lowering the boom on a pair of Bullfrog eyes at a neat private pond on a hunt with Kevin and Joe, in Ohio.
3) Tim Baker of PaleoPlanet and CA. At Full Draw with his handpainted Alligator Gar bow. It is a Red Oak Board Stave bow of 64" ntn, 53# @ 28" The unique painting design looks so much like a Gar that "Hillbilly NC" nicknamed it "Gretta Gar Bow" when Tim posted it on the Planet Primitive Bows Forum.
4) John Dill of NC (a great shooter, event winner, friend, and designer of the Kinati Bow Quiver), Owner/Operator of Anneewakee Archery, takes a practice Full Draw, in preparation to launch some Flu-flus in the Wing Shooting Event at ATAR I'm not sure what bow he was using there but I think he borrowed it on the spur of the moment.
5) Young Griffen Gillespi, Son of Brian, of Winston-Salem, NC, displaying great form at Full Draw as he prepares to shoot the Alligators across the mud/water hole at ATAR
6) "Halfprimirive", Sean Billups of paleoplanet and TX, a prolific young bowyer, recently made this Character Osage Bow for a friend (lady) who just got married. It had an unusual whoop-di-doo on the top limb that made it a challenge to tiller but it looks good and Sean says it shoots good too. 62# ntn, 42# @25" and named Orion, for the Hunter Constellation.
Next Full Draw Pics Will Be On Page 14
