Row One: 1) Glenn S. also tries it from the blind.
2) Jon L. takes a shot at a goat through a tire.
3) Ken shooting backwards from the saddle.
4) Benson says, "I can do that."
5) Benson can also do a more "normal" Full Draw.
6) Ken from the Kneeling position.
Row Two: 1) The last one from Conejo is Full Drawn by John S., also in the kneeling position.
2) "Censu", Noel, of Malta and paleoplanet, got together with a friend and each of their Daughters and they have formed the nucleus of the Paleo Malta Archery Group. They are shooting bows and arrows that Noel made himself. Their picturesque and historic "range" is the land surrounding the medieval chapel of Bir-Mifluh (Open Well) which was the rallying point for the local militia in the middle ages.
3) Klaus, the friend of "Censu", at Full Draw with a Red Oak bow made for him by Noel. They have met a couple of times now, shooting "Clout" to watch the arrows sail through the air, and at self-made targets, enjoying the time with their Daughters and hoping to attract other members.
4) Noel credits paleoplanet and it's international members with passing a great deal of his archery interest and know how on to him and here he is passing it on to his 4 year old Daughter Lara and Klaus' 5year old Daughter Karla, ably assisted by "Snoopy" and "Abby" in the background. Are the beautiful little folks enjoying it? Look and see. What'cha think - high fives tell the story. Thank you, Noel, and the best to all of you and your new Malta club.
5) This is Aaron Johnson, Son of "vizsla", Mitchell Johnson, of tradgang and IL. Already displaying great form - well, except maybe that foreleg, but then again, who knows? Maybe, if it works for him. I wonder if I could do that even, hmmmmmm. Aaron is shooting a "shaftslinger" bow given to him by the bowyer (who has also made him a heavier longbow for later). This bow is 15# @ 20". Mitchell says Aaron is influenced heavily by his "Uncle 'Jonesy'", also of tradgang. Looks, and sounds, like the boy has good, sound mentors.
6) "V-Archer", Arnold Smit, of the Netherlands and tradgang, sent this Full Draw pic for our pages. Arnold is shown shooting at a 3D Bear @ 35yds at a soot in the southern part of his country. They had about260 shooters in various classes. Arnold is shooting a Great Plains PaloDuro recurve of 47# @ 28". Thanks for joining our pages here, Arnold.
Row Three: 1) Another Full Draw pic of "V-Archer", taking a 25 Yd shot at the Open Air Museum shoot near Arnhem. Arnold is also using his Palo Alto here and wearing a period jumper as period attire is required for that particular shoot. Arnold Smit is also a bowyer of wood and glass laminate bows (beautiful ones) and refurbishes old bows by request. He has an interesting and attractive website on the associated subjects, in both nl and english, at http://www.v-archery.nl (Don't forget to come back here after - LOL)
2) Ah, the marvels of modern photography, and communications provide us with a picture taken this very day (May 13, 2007) in the Netherlands and shown here in our Full Draw pages in virtually no time at all. Arnold tests out his R/D bow, "Equinox", that he recently built. The bow is 62" ntn and a sweet 47# @ 28". Pretty bow and nice form, is it not? Thank you Arnold.
3) "8up", Ron, went to the TN Classic recently and received some very welcome help in making his first selfbow. It is of Hop Hornbeam or Ironwood, 62 1/2', 40# @ 26". Ron says he is very pleased with it (I know the feeling, well) and it shoots nice for him. There is a knot on the top limb that Ron plans to paint an eye on and name the bow "ICU". Like me, Ron is fired up to start his second bow now - LOL.
4) "Golden Hawk", Leroy Carlson of IL and tradgang.com, sent me a couple of Full Draw pics this AM. This one of him, and ...
5) This one of his lovely Daughter, Kayla, displaying very good form at her Full Draw. Thank you, GH.
6) This is David Mathis II doing an outstanding Full Draw on 3D pig. His Dad (goes by Mike) posted this especially for me (and y'all) in these TBD pages. Thanks, Mike.
Row Four: 1) This is "4runr", Kenny Yoder, doing some practicing up in VT at "Vermonster"s, Place.
2) and here is "Tippit", Jeffrey Springer, who was with 4runr for some fishing, Turkey hunting, enjoying - and a little shooting.
3) Returning From this year's Baltimore Shoot I have some additional Full Draw pics to post, starting with this one taken and sent by David Bartholomew. You can also see one of the outstanding target set ups - two deer on a side hill. Don't miss the second deer - go either low or high and you'll likely skip over the horizon. I'm happy to say I nailed them both this year.
4) This is Allen, a friend of David B.'s and a fine shooter. Nice chap to shoot with too.
5) "Peckerwood", Bill, a Really good shot and maker of some fine wood bows. Also a great shooting companion.
6) Clark "Mockingbird" Collister. Yep , Killie's husband and a great guy to be around.
Row Five: 1) David Bartholamew, a big guy with heart and personality just as big as he is.
2) Tim, "SuperKodiak38", another "Gentle Giant" Injured twice in the line of duty, trying to arrest drunks. Tim has to deal with a lot of pain but you'd never know it from his good attitude and sense of humor.
3) Killie snuck around and asked if I'd like her to get a FD of
me, and thusly she made me assume she'd already shot - she's so sneaky -
- it worked, I assumed I'd got one of her. Luckily I wound up with one anyway,
with a little help from my friend Woody (next row). Anyway, here is the one she took
of me.
4) Couple of boys who came by the campsite with their Dad's and were ready, willing, and able to give me a Full Draw. I was trying to get their names straight when one of their Dads told me he'd e-mail me. I believe one of their names was Zachary.
5) & 6) This nice, personable young Chap was camped beside us and had this Penobscott Bow (among others). He also (as you can see) wore his Kilt on Saturday (all day), to honor his ancestoral clan. In case you can't read it, his shirt reads "It's a Kilt. If I wore anything under it, it would be a skirt," a sample of his humor, and pride. Unfortunately I never did get his name even though we talked and exchanged greetings many times.
Row Six: 1) As promised, the Full Draw pic of Killie, provided by my friend Woody Blackwell, "Knife River". They got to shoot together (as we did last year) on Sunday AM, after I got a "little puny" and had to leave early, for home.
2) Joe, Woody's Son and a great little guy & shooter.
3) Garret here is Tim, "SuperKodiak38"'s Son. Garret joined us towards the end of the weekend and got to join in their shooting of the course, Sunday AM also. Thanks to all of the Baltimore shooters - wish I could have got pics of everybody but I guess it's a good thing I didn't - LOL.
4) "JL", Gerry Long, of Maryland doing a Full Draw on the pair of Goats in the ledges - a nemisis to many shooters - LOL. I believe I nailed (or at lest hit) both of them this year also - I think I got the further one in the butt - oooops.
5) "JL" here also - I think on Sunday AM on the course I didn't get to shoot. It was a real pleasure to finally meet and shoot with Gerry. A very nice member of our sport and a pleasure to shoot with.
6) Chuck Bunn, "ga.boy" sent me a Full draw of him and of his son. Chuck said he was the "good lookin' silver haired devil." His son is on the next row. Chuck earlier sent me his late fathers old USMC K-bar (knife) and it is in Canada now, being made into a commemorative of both of our services to the Marine Corps and our country. Chuck is shooting a Wing Thunderbird.
Row Seven: 1) Chuck's Son, Matt Bunn. He brought his bow and his camera over to his Dad's, to shoot a little and get these FD pics for my TBD pages. Matt is shooting a Browning Safari gifted to him by his Dad. Thanks, guys, and the best to you and yours.
2) "bambule", a new member of paleoplanet, makes his quiet entry to the planet with this very nice Elm selfbow. I don't know much about bambule yet except he made a nice bow and decorated the Handle in a unique way. He also had his Full Draw taken in pretty country. The bow is 68", 54# @ 27". I found out more about bambule, Chord Fricke of Germany. and by coincidence he has the same surname as a best friend of mine in the Marine Corps. We made a Med Cruise together as lads in 1954 and pulled many liberties together - A Corporal Carl Fricke, also newly from Germany, at that time. Cord has been making bows for two years now, and I expect we'll see more of his handiwork in the future.
3) Emma, Daughter of Jeff (looking on), had a rather not so good FG bow/toy that she loved to shoot in CA. "TwoOsage", Bryan, of paleoplanet noticed her great form and obvious desire to do better, so he made her one of his great wood lam bows and presented it to her. The folks out there watched as her shooting instantly improved and her fun increased. The bow is a double Bamboo lam with a "power lam" sandwiched in.
4) Emma goes solo. You Go, Girl!
5) Andrew Wikarski, 6 years old with a fine Full Draw of his Lofton Longbow (soon to be replaced with a Northern Mist).
6) Anthony Wikarski, 3 years old doing equally well in only his second outing, with his Brother's Lofton (soon to be his). "Long Bow", Derek Wikarski of Michigan is the farther of these two next generation "tradgangers" and traditional archers. Thanks for sharing, Derek.
Row Eight: 1) "Woodland Roamer", Alan Shook of Western NC and paleoplanet, at Full Draw with his beautiful Black Locust bow - 66", 55# @ 26" Alan loves to roam the woodlands of western NC and do woodsy and primitive things, much as i did the woodlands of NH as a youth.
2) Friend Pat B helps us take time for, not only a fine Yew bow, but also some "Comedy Relief" with his version of a War Bow Full Draw. Pat says, "No way can he draw those heavey war bows to Full Draw!" However, he made a beautiful Yew war bow of 72", 95# @ 30", for his friend James Parker, who gave him a beautiful Yew Stave. Pat was supposed to make a bow for himself but the wood was such a good piece he was just happy to get the chance to work it, and decided to make it for James in appreciation instead. James will be able to draw it with no problem! The bow has Cow horn nocks. (see pic 3 also)
3) Jason Butner (Son of Art Butner, the guru of beautiful shaft, cane, and shoot arrows) provided Pat B with a Full Draw pic of the Yew Bow built for James. Jason could, not only pull it with no problem, but did so from the regular form stance - wow, not the classic war bow stance. They were at the 2007 NC State Traditional Championships at Hickory, NC
4) GordonF at Full Draw with a Dandy little Vine Maple "Ambush" style bow. 55", 67# @ 26" with rawhide backing and Elk hide handle wrap in the Strunk style. What can I say, Gordon - another beauty from you.
5) This past weekend in May of '07 they held the CA State Broadhead Competition, (the first one in 22 years) at Beaumont, CA Ken was there to shoot and record som pics, and we benefit. This is John S., "Greensnake", shooting his rawhide backed Hickory bow.
6) Here is Aimee, lady friend of Sal (seen in these pages), aquitting herself quite well with a laminate bow.
Row Nine: 1), 2), & 3) Are of Jon B with a newly made Osage Character Bow. Ken says Jon not only went from stave to shooting bow in less than a week but did very well on a rather challenging course. The three Full Draws allow us to see the character of the bow much better. Jon's new osage is 66", 60# @ 26". It's a beauty, Jon. Thanks, as always, Ken.
4) "Cowboy", Paul, of Fort Worth, TX at Full draw with his new Hickory. Paul says it is his first shooter (and hunting) bow out of eight attempts - I like a man with determination. It is a very nice looking one, and he did some nice diamond shaped graphics on the bow as well.
5) Arnold Smit of The Netherlands (Row 2 and 3 above) sent this interesting pic to me with the following info (Thank you, Arnold.):
"Hey Bernie,
Browsed your website. Very impressive and entertaining! Great job and
still working on it.
Attached a picture of a line-up of my shooting buddies at a 3-d
shoot in March this year. Some are at full draw some waiting. The waiting here
was for a big gorilla target at 16 yards that was pulled up on a sort
of slope via a set of pulley's and then released to shoot at. Big fun!
This was the only group that did this line-up at the gorilla target that
day and we had an audience to watch this! BTW all arrows hit the gorilla. I
took the picture so I'm not on it - tough luck being the "event
photographer".
Take care buddy and keep up the good work, Arnold"
6) This fantastic sunset on the beach Full Draw pic is of J.D. Duff of Oregon and primitivearcher forum. He is shooting (and had a fine video clip of it on PA) his really nice self made Pacific Yew, English War Bow of 110# draw weight @ 32". Thanks for sharing with us Jason. The Yew is 77" long, BTW. (See daylight shot, next row.)
Row Ten: 1) Here is J.D. Duff and his Yew war bow in full daylight.
2) "Benha", George Stamps of Ky and tradgang posted this pic under the heading of, "Went stumping with a cute little blond today." I captured it and got a little more info from George, LOL. The "cute little blond" is his daughter of 11 years, Brittany, and she is at Full Draw with her Ben Pearson Collegiate bow.
3) As we sometimes do with youngsters, a follow up pic to show the joy of watching the arc of the arrow, that we all love so well. It's great to see the young folks enjoying our sport with their families. Thanks for sharing, George, and Brittany.
4) & 5) Another young lady archer, Autum, at full Draw with her special Osage of 42" that her Dad made for her. Her Dad is "jignfrog", Ron, of PA forum and they saw Pat B do a bow making demo at a shoot. After that, Autum wanted her own bow. Ron says it shoots well and Autum is doing well with it and that she's a great hunting buddy (small game so far - but the seeds are planted). That's a horse hair tassel attached with sinew at one end of the bow. Ya done good, Ron.
6) This young would be archer is the "Kid Sister" Of a young Bowyer , "Halfprimitive" (seen previously in these pages), who couldn't resist trying to do a Full Draw with her brother's latest bow (Cedar) - and we thought she was too cute to not be used as the lead-in for his bow, which will start off Page 13. See you there.
