Row One: 1) This is Manny of Hawaii with his new haircut and shave - also with an update on the bow he is making for me, (and one for "Ghost Dog"). The beauty on the right is mine, "Guava Lava". It is now tillered, and Manny was about to put the stain and finish on it. As Jerry (the photo taker) said, "It won't be long now." Bless you, Manny, and thanks again to Jerry for the time and pictures.
2) Another view of Manny and the beautiful character Guava bows that he he puts so much of himself into.
3) Here Manny is shooting his own 80# Howard Hill bow at his "range/Front Drive"
4) This is another beautiful Hawaiian Land/Seascape of the view beyond the "range"
5) A little further update shows "Guava Lava" after initial stain application.
6) A closer view of "GL". After this, the Kona winds rolled in, bring heavy humidity, so staining, tillering, etc. had to stop for awhile.
Row Two: 1) Here is Manny at work on the next couple of bows, doing things he can do with all the moisture present.
2) Future American Idol? Taylor Batten now learning the Blue
Grass rudiments, with his Grandfather Don (left) and another member of the band
.
3), 4), & 5) Manny of Hawaii demonstrating my new Guava bow, just prior to shipping it to me. At the twelfth hour her name was changed to "Hula Girl" and as you can see in first pic there, her graceful curves live up to the name. She is on the plane winging this way, even as we speak. Manny tells me it is best to let her acclimate at least a week ( two, better) before I string her. Gonna be a whole lot of caressing going on until I get to shoot her! Ain't she beautiful?
6) My friend Reg and his wife mary of the Adirondaks, just as they returned from Christmas Mass.
Row Three: 1) One of my nieces sent me this row of her "family" pics. My late Brother, Dag's, youngest Daughter Lisa was one of the few in the family that stayed (and worked) with our background heritage of loving horses. Like the rest of the family though, she made pretty babies. Great nieces: Her youngest Daughter Chelsea @ 19 and...
2) Oldest Daughter Kelly @ 22, holding a baby rabbit.
3) "Karo" is Lisa's older Golden retriever and ...
4) "Kody" is her younger part Rotweiler.
5) & 6) "Maverick" is Lisa's horse that traveled with them from NH to their new home in GA. 6) is the better pic of him.
Row Four: 1) On 07/08/2007 Great Grandson, Markell Simeon Norris arrived, and the next AM I was able to get these pictures in the hospital room. Onesty and Markell (no, there isn't a red mark above his lip - just how it came out looking).
2) Onesty watching Great Grandmother Rose looking at Markell.
3) and 4) Sisters Samara and Kiara, in their pretty dresses, came to see their new brother.
5) Onesty, Markell, and Drey - take care of some paper work. As you can see, all were well and healthy. Also, as was with the two girls, Onesty was like she hadn't even turned a hair - even though she has always been considered "High Risk" when pregnant. All high risks should be so lucky. At this stage, everyone says Markell looks more like Samara did than Kiara did. He was about 5 1/2 lbs. & 19" long, and they were slated to go home that day.
6) Will Pearce, The son of my friend Bill Pearce, both seen often in these pages. They come and get me every year (for the last 3) and take me (and all the Dinosaurs for the kids) to ATAR in WV, and then bring me home after the 4 day "weekend". They kind of look at me as an adopted Grandfather to Will, and I couldn't be happier or prouder of that fact. This year, a month or so before our trip, Bill wanted to show Will some of the Florida Everglades and Keys area that he had known as a youngster. They took a weeks vacation and canoed and camped there. They are both "Snake People" but surprisingly only saw a couple the whole time. However, Will's one desire for the trip was to catch a live Alligator. Not only did they see many of the big (up to 8 or 10 footers) reptiles , up close and personal, but Will did get to catch (by hand) this three footer, which he later released unharmed. Good on ya, Will! What memories they stored up in that week for Will to carry throughout his life.
Row Five: 1) & 2) A couple more, closer pics of Will and his gator.
3) Got a couple pics of Markell at 3 weeks old (yesterday in a visit to our house). GGM Rose says he was working to pass a little gas here - she also said it worked - LOL.
4) Markell now relieved - see I told you there was no red mark above his lip.
5) While Rose was busy with Markell, Momma Onesty was "watering" Kiara, while Samara waited her turn.
6) Here are my other Adopted Grandsons (Cal and Oak Sinclair), from Texas, with their "Pets". Now you see why Cal and Will (Pearce) get along so well - crazy snake people! LOL
Row Six: 1) Oak Graduates Pre-school - I think.
2) Cal and Oak and their dog on a Texas sized rock.
3) Here a little bit more of the interesting Texas scenery around the three of them.
4) This one I really love - but then I was always "crazy horse people" - LOL .Thanks for the "summer updates" and great pics, Chuck my friend.
5) & 6) I started work on my first Osage Selfbow (with the help of friend/instructor, Mike Brooks) this past weekend (mid-Aug, 2007). Using an old-style draw knife to, "Chase a ring," (as they say) to form the back of the bow to be.
Row Seven: 1) Here are my dear friends, John and Cindy Dill, "Prouding off" their brand new (08/20/2008) first born - John Davis Dill.
2) Little John seems a tad worried about Big John's paw.
3) Ah, there's a more familiar heart beat!
4) A little rest now - so i can grow up to be an Olympic Traditional Archer.
5) Trusty friend Chuck Sinclair took the whole family to New Mexico for a camping and fishing trip in the mountains. Cal, Oak, and the pup by their Tee Pee.
6) Cal and Chuck sandwich Oak and the pup (gotta find out that cute dog's name).
Row Eight: 1) Baiting up in New Mexico is great in any boy's life.
2) Gotta love those fat "Brookies" (I grew up on them in New England) as the end result, and a "Adopted Grandson" like Cal too.
3) This is , my friend, the ol' retired USMC Master Seargeant, Lee Canady and
another limit of Dove - the guy is a wingshooter for sure. Have you noticed
though, each year Lee looks older but the dove keep looking younger?
4) Here is another dear friend, Dina Votour of Fla. Also known sometimes as
"Gator Gal" This is Dina's second bow-shot Alligator, though
this one is much bigger than the first. Here Dina is doing her impression of
Veronica Lake wrasslin' a Gator (probably recreating a scene from one of Miss
Lake's famous movies) - (I couldn't resist that when I saw the hair over the
eye, Dina
)
5) My young friend, Josiah Vivian, son of friend, Lee Vivian. I get to see them at the Baltimore Traditional Archery Shoot each Spring. Josiah is maturing, and is now a licensed driver on PA's roads - and beating his drum about it. I don't blame ya, buddy - good job. Be safe!
6) This is young William Batten's arrow and is the evidence of the result of his very own scouting, stand setting, and patience. The second night on his stand he arrowed a nice little 3 pointer buck with his traditional bow, tracked it, and brought it home -see below
Row Nine: 1) At the end of William's tracking job.
2) Back home, and a job well done. Congratulations, William. Just hope I can do half that well this season. Meat for the freezer too!
3) Our Grandaughter, Dani, of Maine, got married this month (Oct. '07) to Mathew Knowels
4) Beautiful Bride, Dani, With her Dad, our Son Scott Guyer, and her Mother, Randi Violette, who is like a Daughter to us.
5) Randi with our Twin Grandsons , Cody and Jarod, and her Husband Dave Violette. The boys are looking like really good, and growing up so fast.
6) Son, Scott and his wife, Mary, another great picture.
7) (A bonus picture for this row) A fine looking Wedding Party, with Dani and Mathew in the center, and the twins on the left. Our thanks go out to Dani for these pics and for always keeping us informed and in touch with the Grandkids' "doings".
Row Ten: 1) Photo-op at the house/pool of a neighbor, and long-time friend of our Daughter, late Sept '07 - GGDs Kiara and Samara in the pool.
2) GGM, Rose with GGS, Markel.
3) Kendra (the friend) gets fed apple by Samara, maybe as a, "Thank you."
4) Daughter (and "Nana"), Lois with Kiara
5) A week later, on her one day off a week, Granddaughter (and Mom), Onesty, with Markel.
6) That day we even got your host, GGF Bernie in his first picture with GGS Markel.
