Semper Fi
Row One: 1) AND here is a Macro shot with the new camera of some of my early (now) attempts at Hand Knapping rocks and glass - some are still in progress and none are as good as I would wish them to be but I am learning more each time I sit down to do it and it is a start.
2) Can You See Me Now? (your host - Bernie) is a crop I did of a previous posted pic. I did the crop job to use for an avatar on a new, and looks to be great, Archery (and other subjects) Outdoors Forum Board with something for everyone - check it out: http://www.outdoorcore.com/forums/index.php you'll see my avatar (and "mouth") from time to time on two or three different forums there including, but not limited to, traditional archery, 3D target bow shooting, bow making, fly fishing, etc
3) here is a better pic (with my new camera) of that Arrow Holster from Mike's Archery Leather in CA that I showed on the previous gallery (I love my new DigiCam!),
4) Rose and Samarra with the Easter Rabbit ears on that GGM Rose bought for her.
5) and 6) are a couple shots of Onesty showing off Kiara and the beautiful
little Osage selfbow that friend Dano made for her, just as he made one
for her older Sister (Samarra) after she was born. Thank you so very much,
again, Dano
Row Two: 1) & 2) Are pics of the Turkey Wing Bone Call I made for our beautiful Granddaughter Dani's 18th Birthday - Dani is the older Sister of the twin boys in Maine that I fixed wing bone calls for (and posted pics of on the previous Gallery Page) - Dani will probably never use it Turkey hunting but her Mother felt like she would like (and appreciate) the craft and thought of a handmade item by her "Away Grandfather" - also she might very well use it to try to "talk" to some Turkeys in a non-hunting area in Maine where they live. With that in mind I took the liberty of "Girlie-ing" it up a little and using colors one normally would not put on a Turkey call (for the sake of safety in the field) - these are the basic colors her parents are remodeling her room in for her Birthday also. I did add the year on the middle bone on the back (with the feather) after the pics were taken.
3) Here we have a picture of John Dill - Oh no it's not either - but it is a picture of Cindy Dill (John's better looking half) at The Kentucky Archery Classic (nice scenery, huh? that's why John sent this one - LOL),
4) My dear friend Killdeer and me at the Baltimore Traditional Shoot - it was by Killie's good graces that I even made it to B'more - bless her heart.
5) Cindy Dill and I (taken by her husband John BTW) at The hickory NC Traditional Championships - who says I don't know how to work the crowd?
6) Here is Frankie Joe - my "Twin Sister, Bernie's"
new Brittany Spaniel pup - is that a face to love or what?
Row Three: 1) Kaylei Ann Marie (at one week) - third child and first daughter of our neighbor's oldest Daughter - Shanna.
2) I think it is time for familial updates in pictorial form but first I want to start off with a great mugg from the current companion of my (late, dear) Friend Girl Barb's companion, (Rick) so 2) & 3) are "Muzz" - how you gonna not love a face like that? Yep he's the same breed of Dog you saw in that movie and TV series with the police detective partner.
4) Aidan my niece, Shannon's 16 month old first born (a son).
5) Hailey (of Hawaii) my nephew Ryan's year old first born (a daughter).
6) My Great Niece Jenna with her now 7 year old Tyler (of the North) and 3 1/2 year old Colby - These last three are all out of my Sister's lineage - but doesn't our family make good lookin' younguns?
Row Four: More good lookers from July 2006 - from my lineage (of course they are good looking - LOL)
1) Grandaughter, Onesty, with 8 month old Daughter, Kiara, and GGM Rose.
2) Drey, Kiara, Rose, and 19 month old Samarra.
3) Rose and Samarra (she "faw down go boom" on stairs.)
4) Samarra, hammin' it up.
5) Kiara and Rose.
6) Kiara, making her first stabs at crawling.
Row Five: 1)What I consider a particularly good photo of my good friend and Former Marine Bill Pierce (he hauls me back and forth to Traditional Archery shoots and we shoot together when we can - my wife presented him with a handmade afghan for that service - Yes, Virginia, Marines do shed tears - even huge Marines - uh- he's from Virginia now.)
2) This is a mount of a Turkey done by Adam the Grandson of my cyber friend Regg from NY (Adam is a recent graduate of taxidermy school and that looks like one of the prettiest turkey mounts I've had the pleasure of seeing.)
3) 4) & 5)Neighbor 6 year old Sean (Connie and Sonny adopted him at 4 months old and we have watched him grow here on the Cul-de-sac and in these Galleries). Here he starts with me on Day Two of his introduction to Archery - hopefully it will be a lifelong pleasure to him. That bow I picked up at the flea market - made a string for - and assembled some arrows for - to see if he would like to try shooting it - Ah think he duz! With any luck, we will now watch him grow in Traditional Archery as well.
6) I start a string of pics of friends with critters they've taken lately here and abroad - yep, time for some hunting stuff - Roger with a Canebrake Rattler from here in NC - 10 rattles and a button
Row Six: 1)Buzz Gillis with a great Rainbow Trout, on a Fly fishing trip out West that his son met him for.
2) his Son Jeff with a good'un also.
3) USMC Capt Chuck Baughn with his first Canada Carribou taken with Traditional bow.
4) and his second a few days later, with a gun.
5) Retired Marine Lee Canady with his limit of Dove on the first day of season here in NC
6) Lee's Grandson Derrick Jr. with his first ever Dove - lookit that happy face!
Row Seven: 1) A week later they returned for Lee's second limit.
2) Derrick Jr., getting the knack, got four this time.
3) Morris (friend), Derrick, and Lee with their birds and smiles.
4) My home away from home this time of year - (though not as often as in previous years) just about ready to climb the tree in my favorite spot for the third Deer season now - and it is where I was for the story of my early Oct. hunt on the last day of Bow Season - presented on Journal, Pg7 - be sure to read it.
5) My first Deer of 2006 - taken with Traditional Bow (Adcock ACS "Someone Special") and my first with a bow from the ground.
6) Li'l Ol' Man, Li' Ol' Deer (See next pic too.)
Row Eight: 1) So many firsts (see story on Journal Pg7) that it deserves another look.
2) Say Hello to Archie - another of my "friend's friends" - Archie is John and Cindy Dill's Doxie - as the Cajun Chef used to say, "Don't he purty?"
3) This is my big buddy Bill Pearce's (not only) first traditional Deer (6 pt buck) but also his first ever Deer - also taken from the ground - see the story on Journal, Pg7.
4) After about 4 hunts of little or no sightings I went out the day after my Birthday and got this nice Doe.
5) She came in alone and weighed 82#.
6) She is the first, Second Deer I've taken in a season, since switching to all traditional gear four years ago - any wonder why I'm so pleased looking?
Row Nine: 1) A close up shows that I also had every reason to be pleased with the shot and it was an easy recovery. I did take this one out of a tree stand. Full story is posted on Journal, Pg7.
2) This family of friends faces have eluded us in their full draw pics in the "Traditional Bows Drawn" section of this web site so we are correcting that here starting off with - Chrissie Lutz with Son Slayton at ATAR06.
3) Cris and Slayton on a hunt together in a ladder stand.
4) Slayton seems to be signaling it's A-OK.
5) Actually I think this is the best pic of Slayton's looks as he peers down from their Father and Son stand - well, also the one with his Mom looks like him too.
6) This is my cyber-friend of long standing (ever since I first posted my web site), Reg Whitney from upstate NY with his Buck taken in a hunt at an area across from his home. They (he and his sons) call it "Sugar Bush" - used to be where they made Maple Syrup but the big snow/freeze a few years back killed most of the Sugar maples, and the had to harvest them. Now it makes good feed for the Deer. He took this deer with his 308, on the run, and hauled it in on his ATV. Reg is close to my age - one way or the other. Actually 74 to my 71, and as a matter of fact we were both born Oct. 19th - LOL. A couple of Halloween pumpkins. He also has a great web site dealing mostly with Black powder, Music (some), Support for our troops, link for a real good Native American site, and other interesting things. Windego Camp - Check it out!
Row Ten: 1) "I always knew he was a shady character!" In this scan, proof that my Brother-In-Law, Larry finally got caught up with by the Milford, NH police ("Nice job, guys.") at the opening of their newly built Police Department building.
2) Is a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend with this Quality deer he took in Central MA (14 points, 215#, 21" spread, 190 green scored), with his recurve trad bow.
Now, one of the "friends", Scott Nicholson, ("Jumper"), US Army CWO4 with some animals he has taken with trad equipment since returning from Iraq and getting stationed in Alaska - 3) Bear, 4) Barren Ground Caribou, and 5) Havallina - No, Scott didn't take the pig in Alaska. His friends on tradgang invited him on a hunt in S TX, after he got home, for that one - LOL.,
6) Is another pic from friend Reg, in upstate NY, of a peak near his home that they call "Giant" - already putting its winter coat on.
