"Hunters Are People Too"
![]()
Thumbnail Description:
An Average Guy; Family Man; Retired Marine; Lover of Life, Pets, and the Outdoors; Retired Marine; Bow Hunter ( Now helplessly hooked on Traditional equipment only since Dec. of 2002); Irishman and Story Teller who, at this advanced state of his life, has become fascinated with computers and the internet. Did I mention, Retired Marine? Oh yes, and a bit of a nut. Also a guy who has been (and done) a bunch of things in his life to draw stories from. We'll see, perhaps!

Résumé
I don't really need a résumé, as I'm not looking for a job, though I could use the money. I did this section as part of a learning exercise and since the below is indicative of my wit, or lack of it, I decided to leave it in.
This is Bernie at age 63 - South Carolina, 1998 - Yes, I'm one of those strange mixes who love animals (almost more then people), yet I hunt. Two entirely different balls of wax. Those who know, will understand and those who don't, won't (unless they come to know me, or one of the many like me).
Retired - USMC (or see picture above, right )Key Responsibilities (Getting up in the AM)
"This" is my first attempt at designing/creating a Web Page. It is a work in progress (hopefully) and a tongue-in-cheek combination of sense and nonsense, based on fact. It is/was compiled primarily in the process of learning lessons (again, hopefully) set forth in a particularly good book by Ned Snell, *Easy Web Pages. In keeping with my goal of learning as much as possible from the book, I tried to use as many of the Tasks covered in it, as often, and in as many varied ways as I could. In short, it is an exercise in teaching an old dog new tricks. Not the easiest of "tasks" (no pun intended), especially with this particular old dog.
*Easy Web Pages pursues/accomplishes it's goal while covering the use of the program Front Page Express, a web page authoring program from Microsoft that is a part of Internet Explorer and is included on many newer computers. Considered a "lite version" of the well known Front Page 98, it is also available as a free download from Microsoft's Internet Explorer web site, as covered in the first Task in the book. See Web Site 2 link, below or click above, but please come back. To the best of my knowledge, this book is one of the first, if not the first book written on Front Page Express and available on the open market. It is © 1999 by Que Corporation, see Web Site 8 link. Before finding this book, I had "not the foggiest" notion of how to even start using the program. All I had was the program and the desire. Thank you, Ned Snell!
I do need to take a line or two here to thank Todd Dunn, a relative I didn't even know 'til this past year, but that is yet another story. He has been my encouragement, advisor, and problem solver in this endeavor, and from long distance at that. All the way from New England, via computer no less. I hope the results justify his very welcome input.
Note (added 05/15/2002): For those interested in authoring, unfortunately Front Page Express doesn't seem to come free with some of the later versions of Internet Explorer. I found this out (much to my dismay) when I recently bought a new computer and couldn't transfer programs. However, check your version of IE for it as it may even be in there and not automatically installed, especially if you have it on a CD or in a download. I tried every way I could think of to come up with an old copy, like IE4, etc. that might still be "packing" Front Page Express. I tried MS web sites, well known "Download" sites, file exchange sites (one of those had them listed but the downloads wouldn't work for me on numerous attempts). I had to acquire its big brother MS Front Page (not cheap). However there is a free web site authoring program that comes with the Netscape browser, it is known as Netscape Composer and works quite well. In fact I do use it to upload my changes, additions, etc. I just like Front Page for the authoring part. One thing FP has over FPE is it's own integral spell checker - so I don't have to transfer my writings to MS Word to check all the misspelled words and then make the corrections by hand , as I used to do. By the way, there is also a book available on Netscape Composer by Ned Snell. It is put out by SAMS and is titled Teach Yourself to Create Web Pages.
