Semper Fi

First Row: 1) 2) & 3) Onesty age 14, 4) 5) & 6) Haylei age 10. Yep, I'm back in the saddle again but first things first and right now my two lovely granddaughters, from my beautiful daughter Lois, are first. As may or may not be obvious to the casual observer, they are modeling the wedding dress of a family friend. Doing a bang up job of it too, I might add. In case there ever was or ever will be any doubt, I love you, Girls.

Second Row: 1) My sister (Viv) & Larry playing nice with the beautiful cake at their 50th Anniversary SURPRISE party, 2) L & V yucking it up later (also my back & ears, sis-in-law Sybil's cheek, granddaughters Jenna & Shannon's headless bodies, a little of cousin Dorcas w/ white sleeve, and daughter (L&V's) Deb in the background), 3) to think only 50 short years ago L & V looked like this - cute kids huh - wonder what happened to them(?), 4) a good shot of ol' What'shisname - I'll never forget ol' What'shisname, 5) a pic of four old farts that Tom Dunn labeled as "The Fab Four" (Ev-me-Viv-Dag) - we love it but what's up with that???, and 6) now I'm not saying anything more about "old" or suggesting anything but (just in case) here are some really nice Lillies that Rose grew this year - enough to go around.

Third Row: 1) From family to friends who are like family - (one of Jabo and Kat's beautiful daughters) Kim ready for Jr. Prom, 2) another of Kim with her long-time best friend Zena (pronounced Zae-na) - a great night for prom going guys you betcha, 3) back to spring pig hunt - Randy & me with our "snowshoes" (bog boots) on our backs trekking through some of the not so bad terrain, 4) a huge Bald Eagle that flew over us and let Allen take photos of him numerous times on the river, 5) Randy while we were trying to locate the pig I might have tagged - a miss-step here could put you in over your waders in a heartbeat, and 6) this is a low tide shot of the crossing shown in the "Old Man Creeper of the Mud Flats" photo on one of the previous Gallery pages - when it is like this we can cross on the wooden (old railroad tie, plantation rafter, or ship part) piece you see there but at high tide it is too swift and roily and one must cross on the sapling bridge seen faintly at the back of the picture - more fun than real people.

Fourth Row: (Black and White Times of Horses, Motorcycles, Guns, and Fine Men) 1) Greatgrampa ("Ol' Sim") Dunn with his horse, Prince (Tom and I feel Prince shows the stamp of the early Morgan horses of VT and New England fame), 2) Sim sitting on Grampa Bernie's motorcycle, 3) Grampa Bernie ("Smiley" Dunn) doing a stunt on his cycle before streets were paved, 4) Gram (Delworth) and Grampa Bernie on (and in) his motorcyle before they were divorced, 5) Pop (Vernard) at age five (some Vermont tree huh?), and 6) another of Pop when he was a little older but still a young man.

Fifth Row: 1) Granddaughter Onesty contemplating my Koi ponds and looking rather pensive - a good picture when you know how much animation she has in person, 2) Onesty & Chloe (the dog who fit right in with the rest of our "nutty family"), 3) Friend Allen of SC with his early season seven pointer in velvet - a little bigger than Randy's 7ptr but who's counting - Al is actually happy here (even if he does look more like his lovely wife Corie just locked him out of the house or something), 4) Tyler is a bundle of joy from next door (the first grandchild of proud grandparents, Jabo and Kat and the first child of their other beautiful daughter, Shauna) and loves everyone but is really hooked on Rose, and 5) & 6) Haylei & Onesty - kind of parting shots - taken two evenings before they were to move into their own place again - hopefully onward and upward to a better life for them and their Mom - it'll be quieter around here but I sure will miss them. We will get to see them more often than when they lived in Carolina Beach at least.

Sixth Row: 1) Friend Allen with his second SC deer of the season - a nice 180 pound-er with a 7 point - 18 inch spread rack - I'll tell you though if he doesn't "happy up" in these photos people are gonna think someone is forcing him to hunt against his will, 2) & 3) are pics of the Marine Corps flag given to me by my boss (Bill) at the Ace Hardware on the occasion of my one year anniversary there (which sure snuck up on me) - it graces the end of our porch in all it's glory now (nice huh?) for all who pass by to see and appreciate, next nine pics are from Mattamuskeet 2000 - 4) Randy's button buck from first AM, 5) this is "Superman" Chad showing his persistent smile along with his first morning prong horn and game step-son Patrick, and 6) I watch (see in foreground - bald dome with tree stand on back and shotgun in each hand) as Patrick sets off with his "first ever" whitetail in tow. "C'mon deer, we're goin' to the truck!"

Seventh Row: 1) Patrick (with his first ever deer) is just a little worn at about the halfway mark but doin' good, 2) Randy and Patrick show off their hard earned deer back at the truck, 3) happy me with my first last-evening doe, 4) equally happy Randy with his first Mathews bow deer, 5) happier yet me with my second last-eve doe and trusty Mossberg, and 6) "Yessir- reesir, she come rat aroun thet thar downed tree's root ball, she did, 'n Ah lowered the boom on 'er, Ah did. Ended thu hunt too, by cracky!"

Eighth Row: Four pics and silly grins indicate extra pride in my basket 7 point/drop tine taken with my fifty caliber black powder "smokepole" (see story on Journal, Pg2). 1) "Happiness Is", 2) if you look real close you can see the drop tine (only 3") at base of antler to left - Hey! Ya go with what ya got!, 3) a little background color lent by Pampas Grass, 4) and then "hung" (Thanks for the help, Rose) in the carport with the old man and the faithful smokepole, 5) Randy's newfound friend Dave with a nice 9 pointer taken in SC (Dave is sporting a pretty nice beard too - mine always just "scraggles"), and 6) Randy with about a 300 lb sow taken with his bow - now this old gal could put a hurting on you in a heartbeat - both of these fine specimens were taken in the same area and just a couple weeks within my pending visit - whacha call a real "come on down".

Ninth Row: 1) Scored in SC - small 65 pound-er but still a trophy - my first recovered pig and taken by bow - not toooo pleased, 2) another pic of the little pig that knocked Randy down - good thing it wasn't your big one buddy - that is the Ol' Man stand on my back and the strap on my ol' bean is a flashlight harness that comes in real handy at times like this, 3) in the boat - great sausages coming up - Randy and his throw away cameras are really getting in sync now - thanks for everything friend, 4) next morning colder then the proverbial witch's "which" but warming up about now when Randy got through beating on me and dancing me around, 5) he is an 8 pointer (my highest points count to date) with a nice mature symmetrical rack (don't miss story on Journal Pg2), and 6) weight was 150 pounds but boat is real close and I'm on an adrenalin rush - don't stop me now.

Tenth Row: 1) This one also in the boat (note critter trails along this SC waterway - they love those waterways) my second heaviest deer to date - now we are talking venison bologna and summer sausage (Yowsa!), 2) move the youngsters from the screen - Rose and I call this one "The Beginning Of The End" - it is the end of the hunt and I realized there was no way I could make it to the cleaning rack - good ol' Randy provided me with a rope to hang on to and ever-solicitous was then there to record the moment for posterity (that may be a bad choice of words) - payback for my "Hogman" bit on him this Spring - we really had a laugh over this but it turned out to be my first indication of loose bowels that would lead to my impending temporary downfall, 3) from the ridiculous to the sublime - Randy's much loved children (rugrats, cookie crumblers, tricycle motors) Saleen (eight-ish, crouching a little I think, knows "Mr. Bernie" well) and Hunter Chase ("Lugnut", approaching three, already loves to go fishing as does his big Sis) dote on their father - there is no explaining kids tastes - many like pomegranates and ginnups too (snot-like fruits with strange flavors) - Cuties these two are and it is plain to see they will never have to doubt their father's love either, Next three are our special seasonal thank you to all of you to close out this particular Gallery page -may God be as good to you as he has to us - 4) Bernie and Kissie (Sloopy is out running rabbits but sends her best too), 5) a nice animation thanks to "The Garden Spot" web site, and 6) Bernie with Kissie and "Clyde" the camel (hand carved saddle bench).

Be Good to each other!

Bernie & Rose
