Gabby: "I got him, I got him..!"
John "Gabby" Reyes took his outstanding buck while hunting with his brother Raul during the 2004-5 season near Anahuac, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. On the morning of the kill, Raul was very sick and was sleeping in but was rudely awakened by Gabby screaming, "I got him, I got him..!". These excited screams followed what had been a stressful few days. The first time he saw the buck, the buck was trailing a doe and never offered a shot; however there was no doubt that this buck was the one he wanted. He stuck with the area for 2 more days hunting out of his tripod, and on January 5th he arrived early, corned his senderos and sat down waiting for daylight. He eventually could make out forms on the sendero but could not identify them. As it got lighter he realized that it was 2 does cautiously feeding. They were acting nervous and suddenly scattered off into the brush as his great buck stepped into the sendero about 75 yards away. He was ready for this second opportunity and his Rem. 300 Ultra Mag roared. The buck only made it 30 feet into the brush before collapsing.
This excellent buck had 13 points, a basic 10 with 3 kickers, and scored 162 7/8 gross with an 18 3/8" inside spread. This buck won two prestigious jackets for Gabby, one from the Los Gigantes contest in Mexico and one from the Los Cazadores contest in Texas.
