Boris' 150 Class West Texas Buck

Boris Rubio made plans to come for his second hunt in Texas in 2001. He and his friend Mike Nodarse had made arrangements to hunt a 30,000 acre ranch in Garza County. They anxiously were looking forward to their hunt and yet when they arrived their timing looked terrible since rain was in the forecast. All of the ranchers in this arid region were elated but it wasn't what hunters that had only a few days to hunt wanted at all. Boris made up his mind that he wasn't going to let a little rain ruin his trip so he decided to tough it out and hunt anyway. On the second day after several hours of sitting without seeing much besides feral hogs, the rancher drove up to take him to another spot where a good buck had been seen earlier. Not long after the move Boris reluctantly had to pass on an excellent 140 class buck because the rancher insisted that there were better deer that might appear. Sure enough within an hour a massive bodied buck carrying outstanding antlers slipped into the sendero that they were watching. One shot from the 30-06 put the buck down for good. What a trip, west Texas, rain, and a great 150 class 11 pointer...a combination that Boris won't soon forget.
