After hunting for a number of years in Mexico I have returned to the USA and these are pictures taken at my hunting lease in Dimmit County, Texas. This small ranch has been a pleasant surprise although we didn't kill a muy grande, we had a great time. We have a little over 1400 acres and had absolutely no knowledge of what to expect regarding game except that this general area had been heavily hunted for many years, but that this ranch had not been leased in a year or two. I saw and photographed quite a number of better than average bucks, many in the 3 1/2 year old category and a few older. The potential is here for an exceptional buck to "pop out" at anytime.
This was one of the wettest years in recent history in this region and the exceptionally fat deer owe much of their sleekness and general good health to the favorable weather in this traditionally dry country. Also the landowners have been excellent stewards for wildlife over the years and have established tough but fair rules applying to hunting here. I always feel fortunate to work with landowners whose word is their bond in the Texas tradition.
Take your time and enjoy the visit to the South Texas brush country.
