Four of us are hunting south of Batesville in Zavala County on a 2400 acre low fence ranch this year. This is my third year there and though we have been in a severe drought for most of that time, we are seeing some bucks that are significantly improved from last season and naturally a few that have not faired as well. We do not supplementary feed so our deer are totally dependent on native brush for their sustenance. All of our hunters are experienced hunters and there also are some good cooks in the group therefore with friends gathered around a campfire we know we will enjoy ourselves no matter what comes of our hunting efforts.
