Last day of hunting in Texas for me. The on line bow hunt will continue until 10/19/04. Some new folks arrived last night and more expected. It was back to the B & B stand for the morning where I saw turkeys on Monday afternoon. My backup plan was to get out my blind in the afternoon and give that a try. I captured a brown colored blackbuck early on video and a lone hog raced across the prairie at first light. Then these guys paid a visit..... I really, really, have a couple of great turkey calls !
Billy Don picked me up for lunch and on the way back we set up my ground blind near another stand where a Trophy Tracker Satellite System was set up. This is a self-contained, solar powed unit that operates video cameras activated by motion detectors when animals come within its range. The images are then uploaded to a satellite and ultimately to a computer of those who have access. One of the guys monitoring this site on the Trophy Tracker had told Billy Don that turkeys were making daily visits. Here's the view of it from my ground blind. The turkeys came close, but not close enough for a shot. A doe, a fawn and a small buck didn't like the new scenery at their feeding place either and wouldn't come in any closer than about 100 yards. My turkey curse continues and my hunt in Texas comes to an end with one last look at the sunset. ![]()
I wish I could find all the appropriate words to describe how much I liked this place and the people I met there. Hopefully, I will go back someday !
